IDAL Heartland Chapter meeting (unapproved)

Meeting opened 6:48 pm

Attendance: Patricia Stein, Angela Brinley, Paula Clayton, Kathy Carroll, Carol P. Melnyk, Morey Dunbar, Vicky Ganz, Paul Minnihan.    Apologies from: Anne Killilea, Terry Daye, Traci Collela, Dee Benish, Melissa Loutos.

    • 2017 philanthropic donation pieces still need to get to Deb Drager - Paula to follow up

 

new business

    • Membership dues: to Angela, $25

    • email payment / electronic option to be checked out by Angela

    • IDAL National Board of Directors will be visiting June 9th, checking out NeoCon. Heartland chapter to host luncheon for “break & meet” (we bring potluck) at CIFF on Sunday 10th. Kathy to organize who brings what - specialties & balance.

    • Philanthropic project for 2018: ideas from Paul: Designs for Dignity. Kathy asking does Nancy’s brother have any leads for contacts within Make A Wish? Vicky to take on Philanthropic this year. Suggestion: we each come up with a proposal to present at next meeting.

    • next meeting: Sat 24th Feb for Heartland Board elections. 10:30am at Morey’s. 2nd Flr 3626 Rosemear Ave, Brookfield, IL 60513

    • heartland website: renew hosting & domain name ? Approx $115/year if can get same deal. With National coming, yes! Motion: Kathy, seconded: morey, all in favor (unanimous). Kathy suggested a hotline to National’s site as there will be new things like “find a contractor” services coming soon on National’s site.

Paula: Do we have any more business before closing meeting?

 

 

Yes

 

    • Kathy wanted to have the floor to address allegations of wrongdoing. She received a call from National to question her about account activities and funds. She would like an apology from Patricia for calling National and accusing her of shady dealings and damaging her reputation within the Heartland chapter and National.

    • Patricia said she did not do that - did not call National and tell them that Kathy was embezzling funds. That she was frustrated with the account situation, but had not accused Kathy of fraudulent activity.

    • Vicky left after the first few minutes.

    • There was about an hour of unprofessional behavior in which no one was happy. It was loud, embarrassing, and unpleasant. 

    • Angela wanted to make it clear that checks were signed by Kathy in 2017, when brought to her and requested by Angela as agreed upon in earlier Heartland meetings.

    • Angela also stressed that proper channels of communication should be followed.

    • Patricia said she had called National about other matters and had mentioned her frustration with the banking problem as she needed access to the financial information to write reports.

    • Angela summarized the main problem nicely, that we are having issues with: “procedures and access to information and reports”… that since 2016 we have not had clear guidelines.

    • Patricia stated that we need “checks and balances” - that it would be inappropriate for her to be a signer on the account, but she did need access for reports.

    • We all concluded that there were probably better ways this could have been handled in the initial communication and chain of communication.

    • Patricia apologized to Kathy for the trouble that her phone call had caused, and said that she had had no idea of the events that had unfolded from it.

    • There were hugs all around, but also much unease and embarrassment.

    • No changes to the bank account, access or a solution was determined within this group. 

 

 

Paula motioned for meeting to be adjourned, Angela seconded, Patricia adjourned meeting at 8:38pm
